BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
As part of its annual maintenance program, the Public Works Sewer Division routinely televises storm and sanitary sewers throughout the Village. During inspections conducted the week of May 18, Public Works staff identified a pavement depression near a storm structure on Sheridan Road between Hazel Avenue and Hawthorn Avenue. Further investigation using the Village's sewer camera equipment revealed a failure of the sanitary sewer main approximately 25 feet below grade.
Due to the depth of the sewer and the complexity of the repair, specialized equipment and expertise were required. The Village's underground utility contractor, Kloepfer Construction, was unavailable to perform the emergency work due to scheduling conflicts. Staff subsequently contacted DiMeo Brothers, the contractor currently performing the Village's water main improvement project, who agreed to assist with the emergency repair for a lump-sum cost of $35,000. Public Works crews supported the effort by providing traffic control, hauling, and disposal services.
